Our History

The ELSP was officially established on May 22, 1998. It is expected that the graduates of ELSP have competences in linguistics, literature, and translation fields. It has implemented the national curriculum of Indonesian National Qualification Framework (KKNI) that emphasizes the “learning outcomes” of the programme and courses.

To enable stakeholders access information regarding this programme, the faculty publishes an academic handbook and the ELSP establishes website. The programme specification is organized by the study programme in coordination with the LPM. This has been followed by continuous improvements and changesin management. All information is compiled in a profile video of the programme and made available through faculty’s and programme’s website and Sastra Inggris UIN SGD YouTube channel.

The ELSP improves the quality of the learning process by recruiting qualified academic staff with relevant expertise that is in need of the study programme. Moreover, the academic staff are encouraged to prioritize students in the learning process by implementing the Student Centered Learning approach. To ensure the excellence of learning process, all lecturers are evaluated by Students. Besides, there has been a continuous evaluation by the Quality Assurance Board (LPM) of the University and Quality Assurance Unit (Gugus Penjaminan Mutu—GPM) to maintain continuous improvement through lecturer workload and remuneration.

Educational Philosophy

UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung has formulated an educational philosophy of“wahyu memandu ilmu” (WMI) or the Quran-guided knowledge (science, philosophy, and art).As an Islamic institution, the university is responsible to advance the science and technologyas well as to preserve Islamic spirit and values of the Muslim stakeholders.

Courses

The curriculum structure designed by the ELSP is set up into two subject compositions: specific courses and generic courses. The former consists of primary courses (linguistics, literature, translation, and language skills) with 134 credit hours and elective courses (14 credit hours).

Qualified Lecturers

To ensure the curriculum structure runs well, the ELSP is supported by qualified academic staff and support staff that work hand in hand to serve the students professionally. In 2022, ELSP has 37 permanent academics with different educational qualifications: one professor, 11 doctors, and 25 master degree holders. Three of 25 lecturers with master degrees are doing doctoral studies.
